The son of Alma, he rebelled against his father and sought to destroy the church of God with four of the sons of King Mosiah (Ammon, Aaron, Omner and Himni), until he was visited by an angel. He became a powerful missionary, the first chief judge of the Nephites and a keeper of the sacred records.  

He is the father of at least three sons - Helaman, Shiblon, Corianton
